Palazzo Consolare

Palazzo Consolare

Sul lato sud di Piazza Mazzini si innalza il Palazzo Consolare, costruzione tipica del XII-XIII secolo, ornato di una loggetta con 3 bifore, una incrociata in un arco arabesco, mentre gli altri 2 archi sono di fattura essenzialmente romanica: eleganti i capitelli e le relative colonnine.

Nel 1909 Luigi Morosini portò a termine con successo i lavori di restauro iniziati nel 1905, riportando alla luce le tracce di queste stesse bifore in stile romanico della loggia medievale, emerse sulla facciata del Palazzo Comunale durante i lavori di demolizione della torre. Appoggiata alla loggia si erge la Torre guelfa dove vi era la scarana, una campana che annunciava la cessazione delle attività giornaliere.
Per quanto riguarda l'interno dell'ex Palazzo Consolare – attuale sede dell'Associazione Pro Loco – le prime notizie risalgono al 1905 e si devono al noto ingegnere-architetto ferentinate Luigi Morosini, dove sono stati portati alla luce resti di mosaico; in seguito, altri tratti di pavimento sono stati scoperti intorno al 1985 e la ristrutturazione complessiva risale al 1999.
